The Huawei Matebook X = The "Macbook Air" Windows users are waiting for?

Are you a PC user who wants a windows laptop as sleek as a Macbook Air at half the price? Then the Huawei Matebook X might be the laptop for you.

This 13-inch, Windows 10 ultraportable laptop, is Huawei's latest foray into laptops and design wise it straight up copies Apple's Macbook Air. 

It features aluminum clamshell design and uses Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, which is great for power-users and artists who might want to consider this laptop.

Speaking of artists, its display is an impressive 13-inch display that offers 3:2 aspect ratio at 2K resolution. The only downsides are the storage options which comes at 256GB or 512GB SSD configurations and RAM which only comes in 4GB and 8GB options. That said, it does have very great battery life that lasts roughly around 9 - 10 hours, which is great for people on the go.

The Matebook X also uses USB type C, and they included a 2,0 dongle port for those who still use older USB ports or video ports. Another interesting feature is that they also partnered with Dolby and brought the Atmos Sound System for this ultraportable delivering amazing listening experience on this laptop.

It's still unclear though whether or not Huawei will bring this ultraportable here in the Philippines. Hopefully they announce it soon.

My first watch; the G-Shock G7900

For those who may have been reading my blog, I'm known to be such a gadget lover (as seen on my multiple gadget related posts). However for quite sometime, I've wondered why I never BOUGHT a watch for myself considering that's the most "basic" gadget anyone should have... aside from a mobile phone ofcourse. :D I guess I just thought very little of watches since most mobile phones nowadays are equipped with a clock. But after being stuck with literally no electricity for days (Typhoon season) I found the relevance of very "basic" gadgets... like a watch.

Now I do own a watch mind you, (I used to get hand-me-down watches from my dad) so technically this isn't my first ever watch. But this IS the first watch I've actually done the usual thing I do when it comes to purchasing gadgets; research, compare, and actually buying one to suit my needs. This all started thanks to my old Timex Expedition watch getting a nasty scratch on its face as seen on the pic below:

It's a slightly nasty scratch that was due in part of me accidentally bumping into another person in the mall and our watches hit one another. :( This particular watch of mine still works fine, but finally decided to get another watch as a "beater" watch. An everyday watch that can withstand abuse of my daily commute and on-the-road adventures.

That's when I remembered the Casio G-Shock.

To those who may not be familiar with the brand, Casio (a Japanese watch brand) is very popular for its G-Shock brand for a very good reason. It's known worldwide for being virtually indestructible, and is able to withstand insane amounts of abuse. Military, Service, Policemen have sworn to the brand's durability that it has become stuff of legends.

It was designed by Casio's engineer; Kikuo Ibe, who designed the first G-Shock watch after his own watch broke. He wanted to challenge the notion that watches are "fragile pieces of jewelry", and set out to create the most durable and reliable watches ever known. Thus the "G-Shock" was born.

Seeing the insane endurance tests, and the numerous reviews of people who have actually worn the watch saying how reliable it is, I decided for my first watch that I'll personally purchase, to be a Casio G-Shock. And after reviewing, reading countless G-Shock models online, I've finally settled on getting a G-7900-1 model for my first G-Shock.

Pretty much straight-forward, with no frills. It has a thick user manual and international warranty card, but overall that's it. I suppose Casio wanted users to get the watch slapped on the user's wrist as soon as they open the box. :D

The watch is definitely more "chunkier" than my old Timex watch, which is actually a good thing coz I have big wrists. The face of the watch is also abit bigger. It's fairly easy to read the time and I love how the buttons on this particular model is very easy to press compared to other G-Shock models (which can be tough to press at times).

Another quirky feature of this watch is the "wrist flaps", as seen below:

Despite the flaps looking abit obtrusive, it actually feels good on the wrist. Infact, wearing the G7900 feels MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE on my wrist than my old leather Timex watch. And despite the watch looking bulky and chunky, it feels rather light. Infact it feels LIGHTER than my old Timex watch, which says alot considering it looks bigger.

This particular model has the following set of features:

• Shock Resistant
• 200M Water Resistant (yes you can swim in the pool with this thing on)
• Low Temp Resistant LCD screen (you can put this in your freezer, and it would still work)
• Auto EL Backlight w/ Afterglow (I love this function, as I don't need to press a button to activate the backlight. All I need to do is tilt it and have it up my face and my watch lights up automatically. Genius!)
• World Clock (featuring 28 Time Zones, 48 cities and Daylight Saving options)
• Tide Graph (useful if you're out on the sea to know if its hightide or lowtide)
• Moon Data (useful if you're into star gazing or watching the moon)
• Automated Calendar (that's pre-programmed until the year 2099 with adjustments to leap years, etc.)
• Stopwatch/Countdown timers
• Alarm mode
• Battery: CR2025 (common watch batteries) with battery life of approx. 2-3 years

Not bad indeed. I'm simply amazed with the amount of tech Casio engineers are able to squeeze in a relatively compact watch. I'm definitely happy with my purchase and if this thing lasts as long as they say it will, looks like this is the start of me collecting G-Shock watches then. :D

Monster Hunter 4 ProMini 9000 mAh Battery Pack Unboxing

Just recently, I got myself one of these from Datablitz

It's the officially licensed battery pack for Monster Hunter 4 called; the Promini 9000mAh Battery pack. I got it for about Php2495 (roughly $55) and I came away impressed overall with the said battery pack. Here's a small video unboxing of the battery pack itself:

If you're like me, who brings some gadgets on-the-go, like tablets, mobile phones and specially a handheld gaming console like a Nintendo 3DS, it definitely sucks when your gadget suddenly runs out of juice for you to keep on using them while you're out. And for people like us, battery packs like these are heaven send, as they give us that emergency charge when we need them the most, anytime, anywhere!

But the thing is, most battery packs available locally come from China. And not only do they look cheap, but they are prone to some very scary problems like short circuiting and in other instances, the battery suddenly bursting leaving the battery pack in flames.

I've been on the market for battery packs for quite sometime, after finding myself in alot of situations where my gadget suddenly runs out of battery. So hearing that Datablitz has imported these bad boys, I tried to read up any article regarding the said battery pack and I was surprised that it was officially licensed by Capcom no less! And so I went ahead and got myself one, and it didn't disappoint.

As far as looks go, this looks quite nice honestly. If you're a Monster Hunter fan, you definitely owe it to yourself to get one of these. Just look at the logo detailing from up-close:

Simply gorgeous! :D The fact that it's also encased in steel/titanium, this looks very sleek and would definitely turn some geek heads, specially those who are into the Monster Hunter series. The battery pack itself isn't that big, but it definitely feels solidly built. Here's some pictures for size reference:

When it comes to performance, it definitely is bang for your buck. With a whopping 9000mAh of battery packed in, it can charge your tablet for 2 full charges, which is good. Speaking of charging your device twice, another awesome feature of this battery pack, is that there's 2 separate USB output slots for you to charge your device simultaneously! 

This is perfect specially when you have 2 different gadgets that are both low in battery and you want to charge them at the same time! Here's my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 and my Cherry Mobile Titan phone being charged at the same time:

I got alot of questions in groups when they learned I have this Battery Pack, as to how to charge the unit itself. And so, I decided to make a step-by-step illustrated tutorial on how to do so.

Also, if you happen to have one of Apple's USB chargers like this one:

You can use that to directly plug the battery pack on to an electrical outlet and charge it from there. It's been tested to be working for me. Hopefully the guide was of help to others.

The only downside to this, is that the package doesn't come with its own USB charger for the Nintendo 3DS! I mean it's just ironic that for an officially licensed battery pack to play Monster Hunter 4 on the 3DS, it doesn't have the cable needed to charge the 3DS itself! D: So I went ahead and scouted for a USB charger for my 3DS, and I found one in SM Bicutan:

Got it for on sale for only Php200! :D

The great thing about this USB charger, is that it not only works with the 3DS/3DSXL, but with DSi/DSi XL as well as the PSP 2000/3000 and the Gameboy Micro.

Anyway, there you have it! In my opinion, despite the price, I would have to say it's very much worth every penny. The fact that it performs well and it is very solidly built, you could be assured that you've invested on something that won't easily break. Add that it also looks really sleek and nice, its a definite must buy for me.

Thor Mjolnir Hammer USB drive @ Jollibee!!

If there's one thing I loved about Jollibee, is that they always release awesome toys for their Value Meals! Just remembering their amazing Voltron Toy set that they released a few years ago which looked like this:

Ha! Take that McDonalds! XD

Anyway, Jollibee's new toy is for the upcoming Marvel movie "Thor: The Dark World", which is Thor's famous hammer; the Mjolnir! And the sweet thing about this hammer is that its actually a USB drive too!! :D

To be able to purchase this amazing lil USB drive, you'll need to purchase their latest burger value meal; the Cheesy Bacon Mushroom Champ!!

Since I wanted to get my hands on that USB drive, I decided to get myself that meal! Upon ordering I learned that apparently you need to purchase the value meal first which cost Php165 (roughly $3.5) BEFORE you can purchase the Mjolnir Hammer USB drive which costs Php95 (roughly $2.5). Well, considering the overall total cost would cost me the same price of an actual lousy, boring USB drive anyway, I decided to get one. Atleast this one comes with a deliciously lookin burger, along with that amazing Mjolnir Hammer USB drive.

As for the burger, I can definitely vouch for its yumminess! I mean just look at all the cheese oozing out of the burger!

Anyway, before this post becomes a foodie review, here's the actual USB itself:

This awesome gadget is actually really solidly build. It's made out of thick durable plastic and has a really nice weight to it. It definitely doesn't feel light or flimsy, but has enough weight to make it feel solid. It comes in 1GB storage capacity (which is a bummer), but hey atleast if you find yourself in a pinch, you'll have this one ready to transfer small files for you. It definitely doesn't look bad when placed in my desk. :D

Congratulations again Jollibee for such an amazing product tie-in to the upcoming movie "Thor: The Dark World"!! So to every geek out there, what the hell are you waiting for?! Go to your nearest Jollibee store RIGHT NOW and grab this before stocks run out!

Testing out bloggin on my iTouch

Well this is my first test using Blogpress to actually make a blog post via my iTouch. Im currently having dinner as i write this. Here's what im eatin so far:




So far so good, it seems to be working fine. Ill check and update this blogpost later. My one beef is that typing via the ipod's keyboard can be a bitch, but everything else seems to be fine.
